CS 11 - Introduction to Computer Programming I
Announcements
March 28, 2014 - Machine Problem 2 results up. And with that, here are your (semi-)final grades. As a reminder, you have until Monday, March 31, to raise concerns regarding the checking of your Exam 3, and until next week Friday, April 4, to raise concerns regarding the checking of your MP 2. The target date for submission of your grades to CRS is on April 5, Saturday.
March 24, 2014 - I've now finished checking Exam 3. You may get your test papers at Room 301 later. Here is the running tally of your grades. The only thing left for me to fill in there are your MP 2 scores.
March 23, 2014 - Answer Key for Exam 3 now up. I will be giving out the results of Exam 3 and Machine Problem 2 within the coming week.
March 14, 2014 - The score tally for the Machine Exercises has been finalized. Here is for the HTRU class. Here is for the FWRU class. Again, the "perfect" raw total score for the Machine Exercises is 75. In case you're wondering, those marked "ME sp" are the remedial Machine Exercises we had at the start of the year (measures of central tendency). Just to remind you, the deadline for Exam 3 submission is on March 18, Tuesday. Please be guided accordingly.
March 12, 2014 - Exam 3 Questionnaire now up.
March 7, 2014 - Machine Problem 2 deadline has been extended to March 21, Friday.
February 20, 2014 - Machine Problem 2 specs are now up.
February 18, 2014 - I've finished (FINALLY!!!) checking your Machine Problem 1 submissions. The results for the HTRU class can be downloaded here, while the results for the FWRU class can be downloaded here.
February 17, 2014 - Let's start lab classes this week at 8:40am. Also, take note of the adjusted schedule of activities. The specifications for Machine Problem 2 will be posted here on February 21, Friday. Please be guided accordingly. Thanks.
January 8, 2014 - I've adjusted the calendar of activities to reflect the "review" sessions we'll be having from tomorrow up to next week Wednesday. Please be guided accordingly. Thanks.
December 13, 2013 - UPDATE: Machine Problem 1 specs now up. I have decided to push through with giving the Machine Problem 1 specs before the Christmas break, although I will be posting it later tonight as I am still working on the rules of the submission. However, I will be rescheduling the deadline of the first MP up until January 31, 2014. There will be an incentive though for early submissions of an additional 1 point per day early, provided: a) the source code will compile and run according to specifications b) the required files are complete and of proper constitution and c) there is a cap on the additional grade in that up until a maximum of +25 points will be given. Violation of provisions a) and b) will disqualify the submission for additional points. On another note, the answer key to the 1st Exam is now up - see the right hand side menu.
December 12, 2013 - Again as agreed by the (majority of the) class, Exam 1 (December 12 for the HTRU class and December 13 for the FWRU class) will be from 9:00am to 10:30am at AIER/Room 211. Please be guided accordingly.
December 7, 2013 - Practice Problem Set 2 now up. Check Arrays and Strings on the right hand side.
December 4, 2013 - Something that might help you out in your Machine Exercise 2: Table of ASCII values.
November 30, 2013 - As promised, additional exercises are up. Check the Slides/Materials column for Control Structures. Note though that these are just practice problems and will NOT be graded. However, you may show me the programs you did so I can comment on them.
November 28, 2013 - To those having trouble installing MinGW, try this alternative instead: tdm-gcc. As for the additional exercises, I will be uploading them by Saturday morning instead.
November 27, 2013 - The specifications for Machine Exercise 1 is now up. Check the right hand side under the Slides/Materials column of Control Structures for the link. Again, for those who were not able to finish the ME, you are required to do Sidetasks 1 and 2 (no extra points though) for your submission during our lab session next week. If you want extra credit (additional 5 points), you may want to do the optional Sidetask 3.
Again, we will not have any lecture sessions this Thursday and Friday (November 28 and 29). We'll meet again next week during the lab sesssions (Tuesday and Wednesday). Please be guided accordingly.
November 26, 2013 - To people who have PCs/notebooks at home with Windows (XP/Vista/7/8) OS, here is a link on how to install GCC on your machine. You will be installing MinGW, which is a minimal version of the GCC designed for Windows. Follow the instructions carefully, and you will need an Internet connection while performing the installation. By the way, the compiler you will need for compiling C source files is the C++. E-mail me if you are running into problems
To the HTRU students, I will be posting the Machine Exercise 1 specs by tomorrow afternoon. Please be guided accordingly.
November 7, 2013 - This is the website for the CS 11 (Introduction to Computer Programming I) class of Jan Michael Yap. Announcements and files pertinent to the class will be posted here.
Syllabus can be downloaded here.
