CS 197 - Introduction to Data Analysis

Announcements

    • February 24, 2014 - The schedule of presentations for March 3 and 10 can be found on the right hand side of the site. Each group will be given 15 minutes to present, and another 5 minutes of Q&A by the panelists and/or audience members. Please do come on time.

    • February 20, 2014 - On Monday, consultations will be done on a first come, first served basis. I surmised that assigning you to certain schedules would be futile. :D In any case, I will be in AIER starting 7:30am. Hope to see you all by then. :)

    • February 16, 2014 - Here's the schedule of consultations for tomorrow. Please come on time. Again, the deadline of the data characterization and preprocessing document is tomorrow midnight. Submission is via e-mail. See you tomorrow.

    • February 8, 2014 - We won't be having classes on Monday, February 10, 2014. Instead, we'll again be having consultations spread out over the coming week. Here is the schedule of consultations per group as well as the other possible time slots that are open. Should your group wish to change schedules, e-mail me ASAP, preferably by Tuesday, February 11, 2014.

    • February 2, 2014 - Slides for tomorrow's lecture is now up. Again, we start tomorrow's lecture at 8:00am. See you tomorrow.

    • January 27, 2014 - Here is a .zip file containing sample documentations of data characterization and preprocessing. As mentioned during the consultations last week, your group should submit the data characterization and preprocessing document by February 17, 2014.

    • January 21, 2014 - Here is the updated schedule of consultations for the week. The venue for the consultations by the way is in the Algorithms and Complexity Research Laboratory, Room 317. Again, please do come on time, and be guided accordingly.

    • January 20, 2014 - Here is the schedule of consultations for the week. There are still 8 more groups who have not yet e-mailed me their free times. For those groups, kindly consult the document for the remaining time slots for consultations. Please be guided accordingly. To those groups who were already assigned schedules, do come on time so we could maximize the time allotted. See you within the week.

    • January 18, 2014 - We will not have any classes on Monday, January 20. Stand by for the schedule of consultations this coming week. I'll post them by tomorrow, or Monday evening at the latest. For those groups that have not yet e-mailed me their free times, please do so ASAP so I can include you in the scheduling.

    • January 13, 2014 - Just to remind you to e-mail me by Friday, January 17, your free schedules for next week. Make sure that at least majority of your members are free during the listed schedules.

    • January 5, 2014 - Firstly, a Happy New Year to all of you. Tomorrow's session will be an open consultation day, starting at 7:30am. Attendance is thus not required. Groups who wish to consult me regarding their topics or even the problem set can come in, and will be accommodated on a first-come-first-served basis. However, those who did not attend the consultation last December 16 are required to come in so as to check on the progress on data gathering and to (hopefully) lock in your topic for the mini project.

    • December 13, 2013 - Here is the schedule of consultations for Monday, December 16. Please do come on time so we could finish as early as possible. Additionally, I realized that I have not provided the link to Problem Set 1 even though I should've last December 9. It is up just now, and I offer my sincerest apologies for forgetting to do so last Monday. To compensate for the oversight, I have rescheduled the deadline of submission for Problem Set 1 from January 6 to January 13, 2014.

    • November 26, 2013 - Here is the list of tentative topics per group, as agreed upon last Monday. To groups who have not yet completed their list of topics, e-mail them to me ASAP, preferable December 2 at worst. For the December 2 session, let's start our class at 7:20am and let's end at 9:50am instead. Hopefully, we would be able to cover Data Characterization, Data Preprocessing, and (most of) Data Distribution by then to give way for follow-up consultations tentatively on December 9, 2013. Please be guided accordingly. Thank you very much.

    • November 24, 2013 - As of 4:00pm today, only 10 groups accounting for 24 out of 43 students enlisted in the class have submitted their line-ups. As such, only those respective groups have been assigned schedules for the consultations tomorrow (see here). To those who have not yet e-mailed their line-ups, please do so ASAP. See you guys tomorrow at 7:30am.

    • November 11, 2013 - This is the website for the CS 197 (Introduction to Data Analysis) class of Jan Yap. Announcements and files pertinent to the class will be posted here.
